I did that in the Legislature in Alabama and got denied because the Newspaper I worked for was online only.

Even if you did somehow take someones badge there is still the issue of Sony letting you take pics from the event

I've never had my SD cards confiscated though

they just asked me to stop but let me keep whatever photos I managed to snap

then that's not so bad, just take a few good pics and play dumb

at these events if you take pics they kick you out of the venue or convention even taking away your attendee badge

getting past initial security check is easy imo; it's the guards inside the venue that you have to watch out for
